Bipartisanship = Treason! (Dick Morris says so)
February 14th 2009 00:14
They say that you can’t keep a good man down. Apparently you can’t keep Dick Morris down, either. He’s taking another wack at the stimulus, the conservatives’ boogeyman du jour.
Benedict Arnolds of the GOP, by Dick Morris and Eileen McGann
“Sens. Collins, Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) have sold out their party,”
Notice which came first, ladies and gentlemen. According to Big D, party loyalty comes first, before everything else.
“their state”
Meaning the states of Pennsylvania and Maine, that both went for Obama in the election and are likely to get some money from the stimulus that will help them stave off bankruptcy?
“and their supporters.”
Meaning the people that voted for them, knowing that they were moderates? For crying out loud, didn’t Dick look at their voting records in the Senate? It’s not like they’ve never voted against party lines before.
“ .................................................“
Oh, I’m sorry, I thought the author said something about the senators needing to think about the good of the country or what’s best for the nation as a whole. My mistake, apparently that’s not important.
“Don't buy their excuse that they shaved more than one hundred billion dollars in spending from the Senate version. By the time the Senate/House conference reconciles the differences between the versions of the legislation passed by the two houses, most of that spending will be back in the law anyway.
That may have been what the DM thought would happen, but that’s not what happened. The House version of the bill was $819 billion, the Senate version was $838 billion.
Really Long Link
The compromise bill, as it stands now, and contrary to Morris the Cat’s expectations, is set to cost $789 billion, almost $50 billion (i)less than the Senate version that Senators Collins, Snowe, and Specter voted for.
Really Long Link
Later in the piece, Dick Maestro claims that the stimulus would:
1. “Hurt economic recovery by elbowing aside private borrowers and consumers as the government goes to the front of the line to borrow adequate funds to cover its deficit."
It’s called a recession, Dick. In other words, people aren’t borrowing or consuming, at least not enough. Exactly who is the government going to elbow aside?
2. “Invite massive inflation in the future as consumers and businesspeople sit on most of the money until times improve. Then, when confidence begins to return -- no thanks to the stimulus package -- they will deluge the economy with money,”
OooooooKay. The stimulus won’t aid the recovery, but when inflation comes as a result of the recovery, it’s all the fault of the stimulus? I have a frightening feeling that makes sense to someone.
3. Expand government and spend borrowed money on projects that may have some long-term merit but are scarcely our top priority right now”
Which will help create jobs, which is our priority right now. And provide relief to people in economic need, which is also our priority right now.
Morris and his partner call on more worthy Republicans to primary these Senators out of their jobs. Does anyone else hope that Dick Morris hears the call and submits himself to the brutal scrutiny of the campaign trail?
