The Torture Memos and an LA Story

By now, everyone’s heard about the Torture Memos, recently released by the Obama administration. What you may not have heard is the particular spin certain pundits are putting on it, claiming that the memos prove that waterboarding and “enhanced interrogation” work. Specifically, they claim that the techniques used on Al Qaeda VIP Khalid Sheikh Mohammed led to the foiling of a plot to attack Los Angeles with hijacked airplanes in a 9/11 style attack.

Slight problem with that scenario. All indications are that the attack was cancelled before KSM was even captured.

Does this mean that the enhanced interrogation wasn’t worth it at all? Not necessarily, but we have yet to see proof that it was. The latest pro-torture talking point isn’t it.
